Guj CM unveiled a statue of Gandhiji at the School for Deaf-Mutes Society at Ahmedabad

Chief Minister of the state Mr. Vijay Rupani unveiled a statue of Gandhiji in the premises of a school for divyangs (students with hearing and speaking disability) in Ahmedabad. The statue was unveiled as a part of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The CM said, “Divyangs should get equal opportunities in all the spheres of life. The state government is on a mission to ensure the same. The by organisations for divyangs have increased the monthly assistance from Rs.1600 to Rs.2100 per student.” The state government has established the Divyang Board in order to serve them better.

Mr. Rupani urged one and all to follow the principles of Gandhiji. He said that Mahatma Gandhi was not just an individual but an era. He added, “Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi coined the term ‘divyang’. We must walk together in order to ensure holistic development for all the sections of society.”

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Ishwarbhai Parmar said that the state government is on its toes to ensure equal opportunities to divyangs.

The state government has earmarked a sum of Rs.1141 crores for social empowerment. As many as 143 organisations are operational across the length and breadth of the state catering to 10,650 divyangs. A sum of Rs.351 lakhs has been disbursed to 721 divyangs as Lagna Sahay (Assistance for Marriage) to divyangs and Rs.172 lakhs have been approved for rehabilitating them.

Mayor of Ahmedabad Mrs. Bijalben Patel, MLA Mr. Rakesh Shah, officials and a large number of students were present during the event.
