CM marks his presence in Uzbekistan’s maiden International Investment Forum

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani began his maiden visit to Uzbekistan by participating in the first International Investment Forum of Andijan region, “Open Andijan.” The Chief Minister would explore opportunities of collaboration and strengthen relations with Uzbekistan during his visit.

Open Andijan is a platform for building an effective dialogue between the Andijan region and the business community for investment activities, developing measures to improve the investment climate, increasing the volume of investments, and to drive economic growth in the Ferghana Valley region.

After a video screening on Andijan region, Mr. Vijay Rupani addressed the audience by speaking on the cooperative partnership between India and Uzbekistan. He said, “In recent times, our relationship has grown into a close strategic partnership. The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Uzbekistan in 2015 and 2016, and visit by President of Uzbekistan Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India in 2018, and earlier this year for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit have elevated our partnership to a new high.”

The Chief Minister informed the audience that India and Uzbekistan are now cooperating in a wide range of areas, including political, security, defence, trade, investment, economic, energy and science & technology spheres. He also highlighted the close friendship between India and Uzbekistan’s leaders, which has helped create new opportunities and fostered a higher level of interaction and collaboration in a whole new set of areas. “This has enabled us to bring a new momentum and intensity to our bilateral ties, of course, our close cultural affinity and mutual goodwill have provided a strong foundation,” he added.

Last year, on 1st October 2018, an MoU was signed between Andijan and Gujarat on establishment of mutual cooperation and partnership. Gujarat-based companies are also seeking investment opportunities in the pharmaceutical and textile sectors in Uzbekistan as the Central-Asian country offers huge potential.

Elaborating the ongoing exchanges between the two regions, CM Rupani said, “Since signing partnership arrangement with the Andijan region, government of Gujarat has prioritized our relationship with this region. A number of business delegations, including a multi-sectoral one in June 2019, have visited Andijan and other regions of Uzbekistan. I recall with fondness my meeting with Hon’ble Governor of Andijan as part of an Uzbek delegation led by President Mirziyoyev to Vibrant Gujarat in January this year. Our presence today at the Open Andijan Investment Conference is a further extension of this process of building stronger business ties that began with the participation of Uzbekistan in Vibrant Gujarat earlier this year.”

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Mr. Elyor Ganiyev said, “We have been inspired from the Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summit to organise this summit.”

Governor of Andijan Mr. Shuhratbek Abdurahmonov, Chairman of Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, Working President of Belarus Grodno Economic Committee, Mr. B.K Goenka- President of ASSOCHAM and a number of officials from the government of Gujarat and Uzbekistan were present during the summit.
