Gujarat Chief Minister participate in Chhat Puja at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani joined the people of Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh and other states residing here at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad in Chhat Puja, their biggest festival of fasting and feasting after bath in the holy water, to invoke the blessings of the Sun God.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that people from all over the country have made Gujarat their work place and home as they celebrate their festivals with éclat and enthusiasm, contributing to the social milieu and all-round development of the state, reflecting social equanimity. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure their safety and security. Over the years, a large number of Gujaratis also join the people of other states in festivals like Ganesh Utsav or Durga Puja, Rath Yatra or Navratri.

While the rising Sun is worshipped all over the world, he said that as per Indian tradition the people worship even the setting Sun, the source of all energy from dawn to dusk to dawn.

Mr. Rupani recalled the historic association with Bihar with illustrious sons of Gujarat like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel leading Champaran Satygraha in Bihar or Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Narayan leading revolutions in this part of the country. He also drew parallel of Pitrishraddha and Tarpan held in Bihar as well as at Sidhpur in Gujarat, as the last rites of the departed souls.

Rajya Sabha Member Prabhat Jha extended his Chhat greetings to the people of Bihar settled here.

Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja said the importance of the Sabarmati Riverfront has increased due to the large scale participation of people on the occasion of Chhat. He exuded confidence that any attempt to disturb Gujarat’s characteristic of maintaining social bonhomie would be thwarted under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Secretary J. N. Singh, Ahmedabad Mayor Bijalben Patel, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra, MLAs and office-bearers.
